Search and Navigation

Overview​

Nquiry provides powerful search capabilities to find information across your investigations, evidence, questions, and more. Global search is accessible via the Cmd+K (Mac) or Ctrl+K (Windows) shortcut from anywhere in the application.

Global Search (Cmd+K)​

  • Keyboard shortcut: Cmd+K (Mac) or Ctrl+K (Windows)
  • Click: Search icon in the header
  • Always available: From any page in the app

What's Searchable​

Global search searches across:

Content TypeFields Searched
InvestigationsTitle, focus statement
EvidenceTitle, description, content, source, notes
QuestionsQuestion text, finding status, finding summary

Search Results​

Results are grouped by type:

  • Investigations
  • Evidence
  • Questions
  • Topics
  • Analysis
  • Documents (background + framework)
  • Reports

Each result shows:

  • Title or main text
  • Snippet with search term highlighted
  • Parent investigation name
  • Click to navigate directly

When inside an investigation:

  • Search is scoped to current investigation
  • Excludes results from other investigations
  • Faster and more focused

When on dashboard:

  • Search across all investigations
  • Results from all accessible projects
  • Organization-filtered automatically

The collapsible sidebar provides quick access:

Filtering and Sorting​

Evidence Page​

Filter by:

  • Evidence type (document, interview, etc.)
  • Link status (linked/not linked to questions)
  • Collection status (collected/to be collected)

Sort by:

  • Newest first (default)
  • Oldest first
  • Source date
  • Type
  • Title (A-Z)

Dashboard​

Filter investigations by:

  • Status (active, complete, archived)
  • Work type
  • Date range

Sort by:

  • Recently updated
  • Recently created
  • Title (A-Z)

Questions Page​

Filter by:

  • Finding status
  • Topic
  • Evidence linked

Sort by:

  • Sequence order
  • Finding status
  • Created date

Search Tips​

Effective Searching​

Be specific:

  • "vendor invoice" better than "document"
  • Include unique identifiers or names
  • Use terminology from your evidence

Search incrementally:

  • Start with specific terms
  • Broaden if no results
  • Try different phrasings

Use context:

  • Search from within investigation for scoped results
  • Search from dashboard for cross-investigation

Search Limitations​

  • Minimum 2 characters
  • Case-insensitive
  • Partial word matching (contains search)
  • No boolean operators (AND/OR) currently
  • No advanced query syntax

AI Agent for Navigation​

The AI Agent can help with navigation:

Ask things like:

  • "Where do I upload evidence?"
  • "How do I generate a report?"
  • "Where are my analysis results?"

The agent knows:

  • App feature locations
  • Current project context
  • Relevant next steps

Access via the floating button (bottom-right) or Cmd+J.

Organization Scope​

Data Isolation​

Search respects organization boundaries:

  • Only see your organization's data
  • Cannot search across organizations
  • Switch organizations to search different contexts

Switching Context​

Current organization shown in header:

  • Click to switch
  • Search context updates automatically
  • No cross-organization results

Performance​

Search Speed​

  • Results typically in <500ms
  • Indexed fields for fast lookup
  • Capped at 5 results per type

Large Projects​

For investigations with extensive evidence:

  • Use filters to narrow scope
  • Search within specific pages
  • Use specific terms
